A word about our brooches and the felting of wool Our felt brooches are primarily crafted with felted wool. The process of felting wool enjoys a long history and is probably one of the earliest methods known to man of producing fabric. Each wool fiber is covered with tiny scales. When heat, moisture, and abrasion are applied to the wool fibers, they shrink and wrap tightly around each other, forming a dense mat. (If you have ever washed a 100% wool sweater in hot water by accident, you are familiar with felted wool!) Along with this process of felting wool, we also use needle felting in the creation of our felt brooches and felted wool handbags. Needle felting involves the use of barbed needles that mesh fibers together. Through the use of needle felting, we are able to achieve a rainbow of coloration and the textures we desire in each of our fashion brooches and artisan handbags.
